Evening Walks in the Astana Botanical Garden

Evening Walks in the Astana Botanical Garden

There are places where the rhythm of the big city grows quieter, the air feels fresher, and an ordinary walk turns into a little journey. One of them is the Astana Botanical Garden, which is especially beautiful in the evening.

The garden officially opened in 2018 and today covers more than 89 hectares. Almost half of its grounds are dedicated to a spacious park area, where it is easy to find your own route for a leisurely walk among trees, flower beds, and well-maintained paths. It is not only a popular public space but also a research centre dedicated to the conservation and study of plants.

As evening approaches, the garden transforms. The bustle of the day gradually fades, the sunlight grows softer, and long shadows stretch across the paths. It is a lovely place for a walk together, time with family, or simply a quiet moment alone with your thoughts. The garden is especially beautiful in summer, when the sunset bathes its green spaces in warm golden hues.

For active guests, the grounds are ideal for long walks, while photography enthusiasts will find plenty of picturesque views. The open spaces, contemporary landscape design, and striking architecture of the surrounding districts create an unusual blend of nature and the energy of the capital. Most importantly, visitors should treat the plants with care, remain outside restricted areas, and leave no litter behind, as the Botanical Garden is a specially protected natural area.

A walk can be complemented by a visit to the modern greenhouse complex. Inside, visitors can discover rare and exotic plants from around the world, with dedicated areas showcasing tropical flora and succulents. Tours are led by botanical guides, who share insights into the origins of the plants, their adaptation to different climates, and the particular care they require. The programme lasts between 40 and 60 minutes and must be booked in advance.

The greenhouses are open daily, except Mondays, from 11:00 to 20:00. The ticket office and entrance are open until 19:30, so visitors planning an evening visit are advised to arrive a little earlier. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors may not touch the plants, bring food or drinks inside, make excessive noise, or enter with pets. Personal photography is permitted without tripods or drones.

An evening in the Botanical Garden is an opportunity to discover a calmer, more romantic side of Astana. Just a few hours surrounded by greenery can help you unwind after a busy day, admire the sunset, and take home another beautiful memory of Kazakhstan’s capital.
